Thinking about renting out your poultry processing equipment? Or maybe you’re just getting started and not sure where to begin? Here’s a little back-and-forth we hear all the time—and why we think our rental program is a win-win for everyone involved.
How Featherman’s Rental Program Works
Featherman: This is for you if you own processing equipment (we’ll call you the Owner).
And, this is for you if you don’t yet own your own setup but want to—maybe you’re just getting started or gearing up for your first season.
We’ll call you the First-Timer.
Featherman wants to introduce you two to each other. We know you’re a perfect match.
Owner: Well sure, that’s a good deal for the First-Timer—but a risk for me! I paid a lot for this equipment. What if they break something?
Featherman: Good question, Owner. We appreciate your investment and understand being cautious.
First, our equipment is really robust.
Second—remember when you started out? Remember how long processing just a few birds took you? Kinda sucked, didn’t it? Don’t you wish you could’ve rented back then?
Owner: Too true.
Featherman: And honestly, what kind of person do you think someone starting out in poultry processing is going to be? A poultry person! In other words—not afraid of work, dedicated, ethical.
Maybe they’ve got other farming equipment they’d share with you. Maybe you could even help each other process.
First-Timer: I’d gladly do that! I don’t know much yet, but I can learn. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.
First-Timer: And we do have a few nice things we could trade. What would you charge to rent for a weekend?
Owner: I’m thinking $150, plus a $100 cleaning deposit that you get back if it’s just as clean as when you took it out.
First-Timer: That sounds fair. I’ll make sure to clean everything really well.
Owner: Okay. If this goes well, I might advertise. We only use the setup a few days per year, and we could sure use a few extra hundred bucks!
Featherman: Believe it or not, we’ve had several folks buy two or even three sets of rental equipment because their programs were so popular.
First-Timer: We’ll definitely rent it twice—and who knows, maybe next year we’ll start a rental program of our own!
Featherman: That’s the spirit. And don’t forget—we offer an everyday Veteran’s discount, and you can choose fractional payment plans at checkout.
Owner: Okay, you’ve convinced me. I’ll give it a try. Nothing wrong with building community—and having another income stream!
Why It Works
Renting equipment doesn’t just help someone get started—it helps you make better use of what you already own. You’re not just renting gear; you’re building relationships, supporting your community, and maybe even covering your feed bill (and then some).
And if you’re nervous about where to start, we’ve got your back—we’re just a call away.
We’ll equip you with a cleaning checklist, renter guidelines, and tips to make your first rental smooth and stress-free.
Benefits for Equipment Owners
- You’re in control – You choose your rental price, cleaning deposit, schedule, and who you rent to.
- Extra income – Even one or two rentals a year can help offset your investment.
- Equipment that holds up – Our gear is built tough for farm life, and most renters just process a few family birds.
- Build community – Share knowledge, resources, and skills with neighbors who care about food the way you do.
