Exactly as electric fence allows the modern agriculturist to mimic the movements of great herds of bison and stimulate land rejuvenation toward prairie, the Prairie Schooner allows the grower to mimic the other keystone species of the prairie, the Prairie Chicken, with equal benefits.
The Prairie Schooner is available in two models, the 20′ x 40′ and 16′ x 24′.
20′ x 40′ Prairie Schooner:
In this model, you can raise up to 600 broilers or 300 layers. This Schooner is 20 x 40′ has 800 ft² / 500 birds = 800/500 = 1.6 ft² per bird. At 600 birds = 1.33 ft² per bird.

16′ x 24′ Prairie Schooner:

We recommend the 15oz weight which can be purchased here: https://billboardtarps.com
Size needed for the 20′ x 40′ Schooner: 40′ x 44′ (allows for 2′ extra on the sides which can be rolled up to serve as eaves when not in use)
Size needed for the 16′ x 24′ Schooner: 36′ x 30′ (also allows for 2′ extra on the sides which can be rolled up and serve as eaves when not in use)
Hardware store tarp and bungee cords work during the summer and can be easily placed on the weather end before a storm.
During the winter, the same wiggle wire channel used for the big tarp will be needed so as to form a tight envelope.
Size needed for the 20′ x 40′ Schooner: 12′ x 22′ of tarp
Size needed for the 16′ x 24′ Schooner: 10′ x 18′ of tarp
Chicken wire and tow chains will also need to be purchased to complete your set up.
5 or more Schooners must ship on a dedicated flatbed. Please call Courtney at 660-684-6035 to get a shipping quote.
